Diction
Still need more people noises
People noises in bar scene.
People noises in lantern scene.
No one with exception of Lady H, Edwin, and Priscilla has seen this
phenomenon.
Everyone, be sure you
understand what you are saying and why you are saying this. This is so important to judges.
For discussion – stage lights are amber to show the mood as well as
age the set. Would it show a
difference to view the wealthy with a different hue?
Man 1
Louder and to audience – Gut girls is out.
Quiet tonight gals – louder and speak more downstage. We probably need to reblock your cross.
Edwin
You need to be louder and deeper.
Your voice is unique and different from the others. Take advantage of
this.
Louder and more angry with manhood line. Be angry at your self and disappointed in your
weakness.
Head up and your next times
need to be different and more intimidating. Not believable – your reaction to
Lady H’s the airlessness.
Need to be more obvious with knife.
Audience needs to see your decision to offer Arthur a drink. Listen to his lines and decide when to do
it.
Fainting was good.
Arthur
Cheat out to the audience more when talking to others.
Be on time in your scenes.
Leave jacket on in house.
Take chains with you when you exit.
GG
Harry’s entrance – flinch, gasp, people noises
Be quieter when entering when Lady H and Priscilla have their prompt
scene.
Step on Len’s line – now look girls
Born dead – people noises
When Ellen says organize – more PN
PN going to the club.
PN in bar.
PN in sarnies scene was good.
Hats – going to bar. Ellen,
wear your hat, then take it off when Maggie says she doesn’t know where
people are or,
Could not hear or understand Maggie in we are all fallen women.
Stage lighting
No lights on scenes that are not the focus.
It cannot flicker. Do it manually and begin sitting backstage on
Sunday.
Harry
Initially, you are trying to “woo” Annie. Don’t push her. When you pass her as you exit behind Ellen,
pause and look at her.
More facial expressions when you hear what girls are saying,
especially – I heard we were all being laid off. – the company has told you to keep this
quiet. You are afraid that the gossip Ellen has heard will affect your job.
Hard to hear and understand you when you leave.
Lady H
Occasionally, pick up your dress or kick meat when you are in shed.
Great people noises.
Hands in pockets of knickers.
Research pens in Vic. England and we need to get you one.
Annie
More facial expressions when Lady H is in gutting shed.
When Ellen says I only lasted a day, you speak too quickly. Look more
shocked.
Could not understand you when you are talking to Maggie – ask Grace.
Gasp and almost cry when Harry makes a move on you.
Maggie
When saying – we’re ladies – be more cocky and sexy
After your mom’s scene and your final line, down the beer.
More threatening to Edwin with knife. Hold it with both hands.
Go behind bar so we can see you when talking to Ellen.
Len
First bar scene – get it fixed in your head that you have a purpose
exiting.
Be bigger.
Ellen
Be crying before the end of Annie’s story.
Light and Ellen
In Ellen/Annie scene, Ellen is not in the light. How can we fix this?
Eady
Angrier – God knows….
Throw the towel on the basket.
Exit angrier when speaking with Maggie.
Slow down.
Priscilla and Lady H
Priscilla stand up when you say, That’s just it, and Lady H prompts
you to sit down.
Sound effects
We need them.
Priscilla
May need to add black or gray to your purse.
Lady H and Kate
When mimicking Lady H, lady H moves her head to speak to all girls,
Kate moves behind her to avoid being seen.
Ellen and Annie
Be more convincing when hugging
Ellen
Carry union papers with you.
Could not understand foreman line.
Last line needs to be more forceful.
Polly
Liverish – hold up liver
Vary your voice. It seems like you are always yelling.
Arthur and Edwin
Faster entrance into the bar so you can be holding drinks and Len can
pay attention to the girls and not to you.
Kate
Lady Helena bigger than Lord T.
More arrogant and chin up in last line.
Arthur and Priscilla
We need to return your scene back to the original.
TO DO
More material in the fire.
Spray mop
Lady H’s hat on hatrack prior to girls entering club.

my biggest thing i am working on is people noises and facial expressions. i want my face to match my words. i have been working on making a big difference between my character at the beginning and how she is at the end. my scene with Eli is getting so much better! ELI IS DOING GREAT!!!! he actually scared me during rehearsal so that's good lol!!! and i will work on not screaming all of my lines
ReplyDeleteI feel like my faint was a lot better and I'm still trying to bring the knife more into play. My manhood line needs some help.
ReplyDeleteI am currently trying to work on my people noises and Adding more material to the fire.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is really doing a great job and just remember to show that your character has a purpose and know what your purpose is.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that I need to work on diction and be louder. Also I need to work on man 1 and the way I enter. We all need to remember that it doesn't matter how many lines you have or even if you get on stage, you have the most important spot in the play and need to work your hardest to be your best
ReplyDeleteThis play is coming along great! I think the consistency of accents needs to get better. I am going to work with the lights to stop the flickering and to get faster at manually switching the lights.
ReplyDeleteI am working in figuring out the transotions and other noises backstage.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to speak more clearly and louder. I need to find the right balance between having an accurate accent and being clear. We just need to keep working on transitions and really give it our all!!!!!! We can do this
ReplyDeleteI think we need to stress the importance of commanding gestures. If we could get those down I feel like it would add to the transitions and make them smoother.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of smog in this time so I think we should cough. I watched the video and I will work on not being so awkward.. sorry
ReplyDeletei think what is really important is to never EVER break character. whether you're back stage, giving a monologue, or being a background character. The more that you become the character the better your acting will be. This will help improve our facial expressions and people noises because it will cause us to constantly be in the reality of the show. I think our play is really strong considering how long we have been working on it, i think we just need to work on the nit-picky things like accents and transitions. Because those are the two things that will really tie our play together.
ReplyDeletei'm really excited to see us getting somewhere with this play!!!! do y'all think my voice is too high or low? i could really use some tips on my voice. with a clinic coming up i would really like to blow frida away! i know we can!
ReplyDeleteThe group is overall really good, but I think everyone could do an even better job if they had more personality expression and people noise in reaction to whoever is talking
ReplyDeleteAfter I watched the last video I realized that I have to make my facial expressions stronger. Also I struggle with variating my lower body because I sit most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we all need to use diction to enunciate our words, even with the accent. The judge has to be able to understand us. Everyone is doing a great job on their accents, and I know with a little more work, we'll perfect them. I have also noticed that a lot of us walk the same; we need to differenciate them. Keep up the hard work!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to have good diction, and don't break character. Make people noises and have good accents
ReplyDeleteI thought that we did pretty good on Monday night! In the lantern scene we did have people noises, it's just that don entered a little bit later than usual, but maybe we weren't loud enough. I think that we definitely need to work on transitions!!! they are too slow and kinda painful lol. I really need help on how to be more emotional in the one line that I talk about my mother dying. But I think that we are working really hard and we will improve a lot!!
ReplyDeleteI think we work too hard to make accents perfect st the start and don't try as hard in the middle of the play if we can work on diction and keep accents consistent that will work better people noises in some scenes are needed also
ReplyDeleteMy biggest struggle right now is really getting into character and actually acting like I am Maggie. She is a strong character that gets knocked down and has hope taken completely away from her. i will portray her in a motherly way who has lost everything and could not take care of her gut girls
ReplyDelete
