Notes from January 2

Everyone
Work on lines.
Girls
All the women, wealthy included, are too similar.  Voices are similar. Pace is similar.  You have your music.  WORK WITH IT
Kate
Show more emotion when talking about your dead mother
Harry
Work on accent. Slow down and hit the ending of words.
Lines you forgot
It’s enough to stagger a horse.
Lady H
Do not add or forget dialogue.
You forgot the line- working up to their ankles in blood.
Annie
Don’t add lines t your monologue
Jim and Kate
Work on laughter and familiarity.
Eady and Maggie
Fold laundry instead of washing.
Eady
Much improved!!  Slower and hit consonants.- even though that isn’t cockney, with your accent, you will have to do that.
Arthur
LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assignment through next Thursday

EVERYONE read “Working Conditions in Factories.”  The slaughterhouse is not a factory but was closely aligned in the way that workers were treated. MS. Griffis said, and I agree that you do not know the time period or conditions of the day. Read the following on the blog:
ENTRIES FROM DECEMBER 6 and 12. What the poor ate, Risk of Union organizers, Workhouses and the Poor and the servants' schedules.

NOTES FROM MONDAY – it was rough, but we needed to go through the whole show.

  5. I really want to improve on my scene with Eli and Maky because i know if we get it done it will be AMAZING!! i think one day we just need to go over it a lot of times. Also, i'm working on making my character different but it is difficult differentiating myself with the other girls. I know i'm the funny, light-hearted humor one of the group so i will work to bring that out more. I know there is a lot of awkward pauses and cringy moments on stage but i think that will get better with time and knowing are lines! Also the transitions make it awkward sometimes but i know that will get better!! Oh and one last thing- i also want the audience to see a difference in me at the beginning of the play and then at the end when i'm with Arthur.

    1. Great! I agree with everything you've said. Also, show a difference with Len each time you are with him.

  7. Girls remember to sit differently because some of you are sitting in the exact same position when sitting on the floor.

  8. I'm looking over my lines more and working on studying my character. Brooke and I need to figure out when we need to chop meat and how. We just need to keep working it'll be great!!

  9. i think this play has a lot of potential to be great. I believe if we really work on our characterization and making sure each of our roles has distinct differences it will be amazing. I need to work on acting more scared of eli and showing a progression of my change in emotion that leads me to leave him. if anyone has any advice on how to stutter well and believably please let me know!

  10. Everyone needs to work on tone and emotions at the right times. Need to know when to look at the audience. Of course, work on lines and get a lot louder!!

  12. I will work on differentiating my character from Becca's to insure that our characters don't look the same on stage and to show the difference in her job (head maid) VS my job (undermaid). I will use the notes on a servant's schedule to help illustrate these differences.

  13. I feel like the show is going to be great!! I am having a hard time with my accent but I rewatched a couple YouTube videos so I hope I'll get it down soon. I am also working on showing my emotions more.

  14. One problem I might see in the play is figuring out which gut girl is which. I know it is very hard to do, but if we can figure out how to make each of them different this can be a great play ! We need to have more emotional moments, but it will get better as we continue to learn lines and understand the girls better. I think we can do really good with this play, but it is going to take a lot of effort from everyone. Even me and Collin.

  16. Arthur needs to be louder. Everyone needs to have more passion in every action and word

  17. The consistency of accents needs to be worked on and also everyone needs to have a stronger stage presence.

  18. I think if we all read the materials and get a couple of ideas from it, our play could be great. Also knowing the order of the scenes to where we don't need a line feeder or scripts on stage would be epic

  19. I agree that all the gut girls are acting and walking the same right now, but as we come to know our characters more i think it will get better. But i think that we need to have the gut girls get together and decide who is doing what... that way we can be sure that we are all doing different things constantly. I really need to work on my relationship with jim, we need to act like a couple who knows each other, not just a couple of kids thrown on stage together. like you said we need to become familiar with each other. I also need to make sure that I am emotional when talking about the death of my mother. it shouldn't just be a line that I say, and i will work on that! over all we are doing pretty good!!

  20. I will work as hard as I can to get my lines memorized and accent down for the benefit of the team. Remember, we are a team and that is the only way you win in oap. I don't know about y'all but I like to win.

  21. Everyone needs to have a purpose for every line that say, and show more emotion with the line. Make sure you are using your accent for the whole show and not slipping in and out of it.

  22. ok, so I know our accents aren't all the way there yet but I have honestly seen so much improvement in everyone! I think our weakest point is definitely characterization, I see how especially difficult it is for the Gut Girls and I know how frustrating that can be to hear it a million times, but every single person on this stage is so talented that I know we will be able to fix that with a little more effort. Also, I'm having a little bit of trouble with the order of the scenes, and I think everyone else is too. I know that today for the intermediate we were wayyyyy out of order, so I think that (other than characterization) is the biggest thing we need to learn as it's still early on. Also we have a clinic soon, at least I set one in my calendar... and my goal for then (Jan 16 I think) is to not miss any more lines.

  23. everyone needs to focus on developing relationships. they're are spots that have the potential to be really really great, but we need to dig deep to really hit the moments!!! one thing i know for sure right now is that all the girls need to act like they work in a gutting shed for a living, you can't look and sound like pretty high school girls. the women in the play were gross, and not lady like. we gotta act like that! all the actors are doing so great!!!! this is gonna be a good show!

  24. I think Thursday we're gonna have a great rehearsal! The Gut girls are working on being different and knowing when to be sad and when to crack jokes.
